Library Lounge
Slow down and connect at our Poirier branch
About the Lounge
Located at our cozy Poirier branch, this space is designed for social interactions and features comfortable furniture, tabletop games and puzzles, and art by local artists. Monthly events like Board Game Nights help our community connect on the table top. Everyone is welcome in the Lounge!
We are grateful for the Province of BC's Enhancement Grant that made this possible.
Featured Art
From April 15th–August 10th, 2026 the Library Lounge will host an exhibition of fibre art from Jennie Cole. In partnership with Place des Arts, opens a new window.
Artist's Statement
What makes a flower a flower?
People love flowers for their aesthetic beauty—their vibrant colours, intricate shapes, and delicate features that effortlessly capture the eye. Flowers represent nature and renewal, marking the arrival of spring and symbolizing new beginnings. Blossoms can also evoke personal connections, reminding us of loved ones, special places, and cherished memories. They can symbolize love, peace, and even sorrow, carrying deep emotional significance.
Every spring, flowers bring a renewal of colour and life. They embody beauty, regeneration, and the fleeting nature of existence. My work reflects this essence through abstracted floral shapes and expressive colour. The freeform nature of my blossoms allows for personal interpretation—what I see as one type of flower may appear entirely different to someone else.
In dark times, people seek symbols of positivity, growth, rebirth, strength, and light. Flowers and blossoms bring that joy and brightness into our daily lives, and this exhibition is rooted in that spirit.
