Selection Policy
Coquitlam Public Library endorses the basic principles of Intellectual Freedom as outlined in the following statement:
“It is the responsibility of libraries to guarantee and facilitate access to all expressions of knowledge and intellectual activity, including those which some elements of society consider to be unconventional, unpopular or unacceptable. To this end, libraries shall acquire and make available the widest variety of materials.” (CLA, amended 1985)
All written complaints will be forwarded to management, who will engage appropriate staff and management in a review of the item based on the request submitted.
A decision will be based on this review, which will reflect the policies and principles as outlined in the Library’s Collection Development Policy and Intellectual Freedom. When a review is completed, the user will be provided with a written explanation of the decision.
