Goodbye, Fees

goodbye-fines-2025

Coquitlam Public Library is leaving late fees behind in 2024! To help you start the new year fresh, all overdue fees accumulated in 2024 or earlier will be waived*. This includes forgiveness of overdue and card replacement fees. However, fines for replacing lost or damaged items will still apply.

Beginning in 2025, most library items will no longer incur overdue fees at all.

Which items have their overdue fees waived?
We will no longer charge overdue fees on all items EXCEPT Express Books, Express Movies, Lendable Laptops, and Interlibrary loans (ILLs).

Is this only for late fees? What about lost and damaged items? Will fees accumulated from previous years be forgiven?
We are forgiving late fees accumulated from previous years to give everyone a fresh start. We will only forgive late fees (with some exceptions—see above) and card replacement fees – fines related to lost or damaged items and processing fees will remain.

Does this mean that I have to wait even longer to get my holds?
We expect that there will be an impact on how our materials circulate. However, we have received encouraging feedback from other public libraries, indicating that patrons have continued to respect item due dates, resulting in minimal impact on other customers and wait times. Remember, eligible items without waitlists will be automatically renewed on your account.

*We will begin waiving overdue fees accumulated in 2024 or earlier in the New Year. However, this process may take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete.
