Coquitlam Public Library Increases Accessibility with New Library Link

New Library Link

New ride, same friendly faces. The Coquitlam Public Library’s Library Link is getting replaced! Thanks to Council’s approval, The City of Coquitlam will be purchasing a replacement for our existing book-mobile.

We began the Library Link in 2009 – bringing our services directly to the community. During COVID-19, we were able to expand this vital service to run 6 days a week, with 8 neighbourhood stops as well as visits to our partner programs like StrongStarts. Each year we hear directly from the public about the difference these stops make both in their discovery of new materials and in their sense of community:

"My parents work full time, making it hard for them to find a time to drive my brother and me to the library. We were more than happy to discover such a useful resource close to us, the Library Link. Ever since we've found the Library Link we went almost every week. Our family got to know the librarian, Sal very well. Sal understood the books we liked to read and our reading level. He gave us many book recommendations, because of these recommendations I saw both my brother and my reading level improve. We are so thankful the library Link continues to come weekly even with COVID-19. During such a hard time I was able to even further grow my passion in reading. Thank you so much for the Library Link's service for the past 6 years. I hope the Library Link is something future generations get to see.” - Clarissa, age 14

The new Library Link helps continue that legacy of accessibility, allowing us to spend longer at our neighbourhood stops and community events. This new vehicle features improved staff facilities, a wheelchair/stroller lift, modernized air-conditioning and heating for any wild weather, better tech support with quieter and stronger generators that provide independent power for our systems and Wi-Fi, and of course more space inside for a larger selection of books, magazines, DVDs, and family technology.

Coquitlam Public Library is grateful to the City for approving this important support to our ability to serve the community, in particular, to the City’s fleet staff for their expertise and future management of the vehicle, which will free up our staff to do what they do best – serve our customers.

For those that wish to bid our old vehicle goodbye, you have a year to do so! We continue serving the community at our regular stops. To find out more about our current schedule, please visit our Outreach Services page. We look forward to continuing to serve Coquitlam neighbourhoods for many years to come.
