Starting June 1, people who need a computer can bring a library laptop home. Since March, Coquitlam Public Library customers have been able to borrow laptops to use within the City Centre branch, now they can take them further afield.
Customers can borrow a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop from the kiosk at the Library’s City Centre branch, using their library card or digital library card from the CoqLibrary or CloudLibrary apps.
The laptops are loaded with commonly used software including Microsoft Office and Google Chrome. Users can also install their own software if needed.
To protect customer privacy, the laptops will be re-imaged upon return, so any downloads and browsing history will be completely erased and the computer will revert to its original settings. They will also be sanitized and fully recharged for the next borrower.
The Library’s laptops are free to use for two hours. After two hours, a rental fee of $2.00 per hour applies. Laptops can be borrowed for up to one week.
For longer-term use, customers can borrow a charging kit, which includes a charger and case. A fee of $1.00 per hour is applied to the customer’s account, but is waived when the charging kit is returned.
