The Botter Challenge

Join us for a coding contest with Fiero Code!

Dates: November 1, 2026 - November 30, 2026

Languages: Code Blocks

Description:

As an upstanding citizen of Planet Fiero, you have important responsibilities! You’ve got things to do and places to be. But as with much of the modern world, a mixture of urbanization, tourism, and poor city planning has made Planet Fiero terribly difficult to get around in. Even crossing the street is downright challenging!

Your mission: Design and create a program in Code Blocks that allows you to navigate your character safely across the street. But watch out - obstacles like cars, or robot creatures will be moving along the street, and if you get hit, game over!

Feel free to play this game for inspiration.

Courses that will be helpful in this contest are (but not all required):

  • Code Blocks

Workouts that will be helpful in this Challenge are:

  • Code Blocks
  • Code Blocks Games

Requirements:

  1. Design a cool looking main character.
  2. Design a cool scene with a street as the main focus.
  3. Design and program a few obstacles (cars or bad guys) that are traveling along the street. Make some obstacles go one direction and others go the other direction.
  4. Program a way to control your main character to navigate up and down, left and right.
  5. Program a way for the character to win the level by getting to the other side of the street or lose the level by getting hit by an obstacle.
  6. Program a way so players have a certain number of lives, and they lose a life when they get hit by an obstacle.
  7. Make the levels increasingly difficult (more obstacles, faster moving obstacles)
  8. Add sound effects.
  9. Add a timer so players have to complete a level in a certain amount of time.
  10. Create a “You Win” screen and a “Game Over” screen and program the conditions of when those screens will appear.
  11. Optional: Make some levels where the rules are reversed and you die if you touch the road (maybe it looks like water), and instead you have to move onto moving transports to cross the road.
