1,000 Paper Cranes Project

Celebrate Asian Heritage Month with the Library by helping us create over 1,000 paper cranes

In recognition of Asian Heritage Month this May, the branches of Coquitlam Public Library are participating in the ancient Japanese tradition of Senbazuru, opens a new window: The art of folding 1,000 origami cranes. We will be hanging chains of paper cranes up and around our branches, and we need your help!

This program is happening all month long at both the City Centre and Poirier branches. During opening hours, we will have a display on a table near the help desk at either branch with paper, and instructions on how to fold a paper crane. Every patron is welcome to stop by, and fold a paper crane! After you're done, our staff will hang up your crane with the others, and we'll be one crane closer to 1,000 (and beyond).

So don't wait! Whether you've folded a thousand cranes of your own, or haven't folded a piece of paper more than twice, stop by City Centre and Poirier, and be part of this amazing project.

In the meantime, check out what we've accomplished so far with your help!
