The Link's Design

Working with Indigenous design firm,Cannell Designs, opens a new window, our Library Link sports a colourful and thoughtful flowing design. Designer, Kelly Cannell explains her process behind the flowing fish:

Listening to the thoughts and guidelines of what the community members would like to see, I decided to go with the red sockeye filling the river, as it once did before. It was important for me to continue the design around the entire truck as if the salmon were swimming around the truck on a journey as it travels through the community. This is a story that showcases and honours the name kʷikʷəƛ̓əm, translated as “Red Fish Up River”. Throughout the design you can see the salmon swimming in the foreground and the dark blue shadows of salmon swimming below. The title of this piece is ‘A Journey within’ — representing the journey of the salmon, mirroring journeys of the local communities’ adults and children.

The Library Link would not be possible without the generous support of the City of Coquitlam, in particular, the City’s fleet staff who take care of all maintenance and management of the vehicle, which frees up our staff to do what they do best – serve our customers.
