The annual Scary Story Contest has come to a close. Thank you to all the young writers from the Tri-Cities for submitting horrifying tales that still haunt us.

2024 Winning Stories

- Open to teens in two age categories: 11 - 14 and 15 - 18.
- Contestants must live or go to school in Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Anmore, or Belcarra.
- 500 word limit, excluding title and byline.
- Stories must be original and written by the person submitting.
- Each story must include three key words:

- Deadline: Sunday, Oct. 20, 11:59 pm.
- Email: scarystorycontest2024@gmail.com
- Format: Stories can be submitted as text inside the body of an e-mail, or as Microsoft Word or PDF attachments. Be careful when submitting! We will not accept files shared through Cloud services such as OneDrive or SharePoint.
Include your name, age, and city of residence with your entry. If you live outside of the communities listed above, please include the name of your Tri-Cities school.

$50.00, $30.00, and $20.00 gift cards to Coquitlam Centre Mall for first, second, and third place respectively in both categories.
Initial judging by library staff. Final judging by award-winning freelance journalist Richard Dal Monte, former editor of the Tri-City News.

The Scary Story Contest is a partnership between Coquitlam Public Library, Port Moody Public Library, and Fraser Valley Public Library (Terry Fox Branch).
Prizes are gift cards to Coquitlam Centre Mall. First prize value is $50, second prize value is $30, and third prize value is $20 in each age category. Chances of winning depend on the number of entries and skill level of participants. Winners will be notified by phone or email by October 28 and can collect their prize at their local library. Winners forfeit unclaimed prizes after 3 months from notification. No purchase necessary. You are providing your information to Coquitlam Public Library, Port Moody Public Library, and Terry Fox Library, and it will be used for contacting the winners. Winning stories will be published on the Coquitlam Public Library, Port Moody Public Library, and Terry Fox Library social media and/or websites.
